I suppose Matchbox cars can serve a purpose, other than rolling them along surfaces and saying, "Vroom." Jadon has honestly taught himself all of his colors from playing with them. He has been asking, "What's dat," for a long time now. Rather than repeating, "It's a car," a hundred times a day, we started telling him what colors they are.
About two weeks ago, much to our surprise, he started identifying them...all of them...even silver! Though he can't clearly say the colors yet, he does give them the appropriate number of syllables, adds a bit of a "y" sound to yellow, a "t" sound to the end of white and a "k" sound at the end of black. Since then, we've moved on from the Matchbox cars to pretty much anything else we find to have him point and identify the color for...needless to say, we're impressed, but then again he is our kid, so we're kind of biased here ;) BTW, most kids don't start correctly identifying colors until around 3! Smarty pants :)
And just a side note, Jadon (for whatever reason) has also developed a preference for his cars to be lined up in a row. I find them on the couch, his table, and the window sill like that on a daily basis. I may be raising a future military kid...he likes order. This could be a bad thing :/ Well, maybe not during the teenage years ;)

maybe his organizational skills could be put to use in a non-military fashion also...maybe managing a band?? being a personal assistant to someone really cool? being a professional organizer so he can come organize my closet and my house? ha!
