My Kids, The Bullies

On Saturday night, Jadon took down, not one, but TWO kids. Ashton is just three days older than Jadon, and his big sister Arianna is six.

Not to be outdone, yesterday, poor baby Olivia laid in the floor helpless, as Macy trampled her in a WWE-like take down...

Obviously I'm kidding ;) Jadon had an awesome playdate with Auntie Em's friend Sarah's adorable kiddos, while they went to a Christian concert and dinner with friends from their small group for Em's b-day. The boys were a little slow to warm up, but by the end of the night, they were literally chasing each other around with toys, yelling/giggling at the top of their tiny lungs, causing Jamie and I to question how we would ever handle more than two kids. Oh my! It was so fun to watch them, even when they struggled with sharing. 'Tis part of life, boys. They were gracious enough to give Macy a joint flute lesson though.

She thought she was big :)
Yesterday, we had Trevor, Maria, and baby Olivia over for lunch and some playtime. Olivia is just eight days younger than Macy, and is just the sweetest little baby you will ever meet. Her parents are pretty great too ;) Everytime we get together with Trevor and Maria, we have such great conversations. We'll look at the clock and realize five or more hours have passed, always wishing our schedules allowed for more time together.

While they were here, Olivia had her first taste of solid finger food, some of Macy's organic puffy Os. We think she liked them :) Have you ever seen such beautiful blue eyes??? She's a doll!

Looking forward to more playdates with more friends soon :)

Happy Birthday, Eninie

Looks like Jadon thinks the birthday song was written specifically for his Kuya Justin. In his defense, he hasn't heard the song since July, when it was Justin's b-day. This was one of our first attempts to sing "Happy Birthday" to Auntie Em, just before I gave up and did a webcam video for her Facebook (much better, since I could hold Jadon on my lap!). My baby sister is 26!!! Holy moly!

Journey South Africa

Auntie Em is on her second mission trip in South Africa, as I type this. Just a day after she graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Economics from Coastal Carolina University, she headed off to NYC, then to Johannesburg, then to East London where she will be for nearly two weeks. You can keep up with her by clicking here. We love and miss you, "Ennanee", and we're proud of you! See you in a few weeks!

P.S. Jadon no longer says your "at school." He knows you are in "Afkakha!"

Good Morning, Sunshine!

The things Jadon inherited from Auntie Em: a love of loungin' in PJs, sporting bed head, and being grouchy in the mornings :)

P.S. If you dare comment, Emily, just remember that I DO have the pics of you to prove it. Bwahahaha!

Entered

I planned to enter Jadon in the "Gap Casting Call" last year, but honestly, he couldn't even sit up then, and I just ended up not doing it. Well it's that time of year again :) Last night I entered the top three pics below, and I still have a few more to take of him (I can enter a total of five), before his entry is complete. It has done nothing but rain the last two days here, so I haven't been able to get him outside to get any newer pics...maybe by tomorrow.

Jadon is in a category with all 0-4 year old boys, and you can view all of the little cuties if you click here. It may take a few days for Jadon's pics to appear on there, so check back by Monday, if you don't see him. I promise I'm no pagaent mom here...honestly. I thought it would be a cool way for Jadon to win some Gap and Old Navy clothes and have his pic on the web for a month or so. In a few weeks, they'll start the narrowing down process, and in December or something, they will have only five little boys in his category that the public can vote on. Now wouldn't that be cool??? The winner gets to be in the new Baby Gap/Gap Kids ads. Can't say it wouldn't be super fun to go to a photo shoot in New York and have that very cool memory posted on here for him :) No matter, Jadon is the cutest little monster I know, and he'll always be my favorite subject to take pictures of :)

See, a pagaent mom would never let you see the ugly cry pics (and I really wanted to enter this one because it's so honest):
P.S. Happy 25th Birthday, Auntie Em! This is the year you'll have a quarter life crisis :) To celebrate, we're going to the Steve Fee concert at our church tonight. If you live in the area, tickets are only $15 at the door. Show starts at 7pm...Carolina Forest Community Church.

Mission: South Africa

FYI: Auntie Em left for her mission trip to South Africa (with a short layover in London) last week. She will be there until July 17th, and we can't wait until she gets back here permanently! She's been gone since late December in NYC for a six month internship, and while there found a great church, which led to her baptism and now this mission trip to South Africa.

She's been doing a Vacation Bible School with kids in the town for the last few days (there were 28 in her group alone!), and tomorrow she will be going to an AIDS clinic. I have a million things to post about all of this, but I honestly have pregnancy brain, and it's getting really late.

Just want you to know how proud we are of you, Em. You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. I hope you soak up everything God has in store for you there, and are available to be used by Him to change Eternity for those you encounter. Remember, when God speaks, He has every intention to change your life and/or those around you. I pray you can be still and know He is God, listening intently to His instructions, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your every step, and knowing He has a clear purpose for you and each member of your team, while you are there.

We love and miss you soooo much! Leave us a comment, if you're able to read this :)

***If you look at the map I have on the right hand side of this page, you can see two red dots on the lower tip of Africa. That's where my sister is!!! So you've been checking this blog, huh Em?

Green Acres is the Place to Be!

Can you believe it? We actually made it to NYC and back (13 hours each way) with a 10 1/2 month old, and we lived to tell about it! We left late Wednesday night, and drove thru the night, arriving in Brooklyn at 10am. We were exhausted, to say the least! Thankfully, Jadon was in need of his mid-morning nap, so Gramma and I got some much needed rest. Auntie Em got home from work around 5:30pm on Thursday, and we didn't stop running from then until we got back home to South Carolina!

I figured our trip could best be summarized in a slideshow, since I took 297 pictures, during our four days there! So here it is...enjoy! *If you want background music, just click on the little speaker icon in the bottom, left corner ;)

A few things worth mentioning: Jadon was a trooper, during our trip! Even though he was only able to crawl around less than two hours each day, he was in a fairly good mood each day, though he was more fussy than usual. He's very squirmy, when he needs some crawl-on-the-floor time. Auntie Em learned quickly how much harder it is to have a baby around 24 hours a day versus babysitting for a few hours :) It's okay, Em...I also learned that I have no desire to EVER live in the city with a baby! Man! (Parents who use public transportation are my heros!)

I also learned just how overly attentive and concerned with Jadon's needs that his Gramma is. My mom can be quite the nag, when it comes to Jadon ;) "Is he too cold? Mommy, he wants milk! I think he needs some socks on his feet! Awe, come here, baby...are you Gramma's boy? Poor baby!" Goodness gracious!!! I am sooo thankful that she loves him though. I don't know how we would have done it without her :) Love you, Mom! (Lord knows Auntie Em wouldn't have been able to handle the stress of a baby in the city without you ;)

Emily's boyfriend (AKA Uncle Robert) is such a sweet guy. I swear someone is paying him to stick around and put up with my sister ;) (just kidding...well, sort of) Jadon really loved him, and even took a nap on his shoulder, while we walked around Times Square :) He and Emily went shopping for toys and snacks for Jadon, before we arrived. Emily says he even chose 'organic' animal cracks for Jadon :) Hopefully we'll be seeing more of him!

Everywhere I went, I missed Jamie :( This is the longest I've been away from him, since he had training for work in Atlanta back in November 2003. I thought of him constantly! Since Jamie's favorite thing is to eat, I felt guilty when we went out to restaurants in NYC. I did, however, bring him back lots of food from Carmine's :)
Jadon was so excited to see his daddy, when we pulled into the driveway!

Jadon had a few firsts, while we were gone. He started saying "Neeneeneeneenee," which I think means banana, but I'm still trying to figure it out. He likes to feed his mommy cheerios now :) He also does the motions to the song "Bringing Home My Baby Bumblebee" now, and he calls his Gramma "gee". He tried some new foods too: grilled red peppers, feta cheese, couscous, and Jamba Juice :)

The best part of the trip was that my sister was baptized on Sunday. Yay! Emily has grown a lot in her walk with Christ at her church in NYC. She is part of a "growth group" on Mondays, which she loves so much, she volunteers as an usher on some Sunday mornings, and she's going on a mission trip to South Africa with a group in July. She says she feels more at home at this church than any other she's attended :) We're all very proud of you, Em! It was a blessing to be there to witness such a monumental moment in your life.

I have more to post from the trip, but it is kind of separate stuff. I was able to visit one of my very best friends in this entire world!!! So I'll post more about that later. I have to get busy unpacking now :/

Thank you to my mom for driving us and helping take care of Jadon. Thank you to my sister for the presents for Jadon, paying for our Metro cards, and for your desire to be a changed person :) Thank you to Em's roommate Lydia for playing with Jadon so much :) (Congrats on your baptism too!) Thank you to Robert for being so sweet to Jadon and for putting up with the insanity that comes along with our family ;) Thank you to my life-long friend Heather Wolfe for supporting my sister at her baptism. And last, but certainly not least, thank you to my wonderful husband who helps me realize there is "no place like home."

Do I Know You???

So the last post was about everything in the world having a season and a purpose, God's season for each person and God's purpose for each person's life. Wait! Before I get to that, I have to ask...has anyone seen my sister??? Seriously! I think my sister has been abducted! Maybe her identity has been stolen! A girl who vaguely resembles my sister is claiming to be in New York City! And get this...she has the nerve to blog about it!

I keed, I keed! ;) I won't go into too much detail about my sister's personal business because I didn't really ask her permission to do so, but let me just say that the person she is today is NOT who she was just a short time ago. Let me rewind just two short years ago (again, without going into too much detail)...

Emily Rachel was just 22 years young, living in Clarksburg, AKA Clarksturd, WV. She had started attending Fairmont State University (after passing partying 101 at WVU at the tender age of 20), and she was doing very well there. Not only was she back in school, she was also working nearly full-time for the ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens). She was living in a cute little two bedroom house in the neighborhood that we grew up in. Her life seemed to be coming together. Thank God! She had finally pulled herself out of a disastrous relationship...and I mean DISASTROUS!

Not going into too much detail, but this guy was...well...how do I put this lightly? A holy freakin' mess! Nice person, bad, bad habit ;) Get it? His addiction consumed their relationship. Who am I kidding? It consumed him, his family, Emily, our family, and anyone who lived near him. Criminal trespassing charges anyone? Crazazy!!! No more details ;)

Thank you, Lord for deliverance!!! With the fairly kind-hearted guy with MAYJAH issues outta the picture, Emily's life was coming together. Thank you, Lord for hearing our prayers! She had actually started attending church with her long-time friend Julie and her family. Somebody's knocking...should she let Him in? She started getting copies of sermons that pulled on her heart. It was pretty cool to see the small changes happening...as a praying sister, you know? ;)

Then in May 2006, she moved from Turdville to Pawleys Island to live with my mom and step-dad. Jamie and I had been visiting, just before Emily arrived. We desperately wanted to keep this church-lovin', God-changin' momentum going, so we searched and found a college ministry in the area to help feed her soul, once she arrived. Jamie and I really knew the importance of Emily finding a place with people her own age, people who love God, people who hopefully weren't going to the bars, people who would love her, help God guide her, a place where she would be fed the Word and grow in her relationship with Christ. I'm sure we over-stated the importance of it. I'm sure we were pushy about it. We honestly would have hired someone to drag her there...but she actually went on her own the very first Thursday she was in town.

Long, long story...sorry :/ Emily would call me crying constantly about how hard it was to be here in South Carolina without her friends, without our extended family. She was so lonely and depressed :/ Jamie and I continued praying. It's all we could do, besides counsel and guide her over the phone. I just kept encouraging her to keep attending Refuge on Thursdays, and she did. I remember her calling me in October or November 2006. She was crying and telling me that the only place she felt okay was at church. She said she didn't want to leave there on Thursdays. While she was crying, I was rejoicing. I was smiling inside :) I felt she had finally come to a place where she needed to be...a place we all need to be. Like Rick Warren says, "You'll never really know God, until you realize God's all you've got!"

Fast forward a year or so later. Emily joined a group of girls her age at church who met weekly for fellowship and to study God's word. It was different for her, I'm sure. She'd never really had "Christian" friends before. She'd never been a part of a group at church, but she stuck with it, and today one of the group members is her best friend. (P.S. We LOVE you Kayce!) Of course, there have been bumps in the road for Emily. She has and is still sort of struggling with not keeping her heart solely for God. She was in love. They broke up. He says he's selfish. I say, "LISTEN TO HIM!" God has something and someone so much better than that, right? I know it's hard, Em, but has He failed you yet? Absolutely not :) I got my baby, didn't I? It took a while, right? Not on my time...His time. Just reminding you ;)

So who would have thought? My little sister who partied out of WVU, the one who wrecked a few cars, the one who was thrown out of a few places for arguing a little too much with a few people, the one who has had some real weiners for boyfriends, the one who would never go to church with me on Christmas Eve, the one who never wanted to leave Clarksturd, the one who said, "It's my life, Andrea! Let me live it," the one who once walked into my aunt's house with a club-going shirt and pajama pants on, the one who hated me and used to go weeks without talking to me and months without seeing me, the one who hung out with...well...you get the picture. You ready for this??? That same girl is now in New York City! She's completing an internship with Citi (formerly Citigroup)! On Fifth Avenue! She rides the subway! She cares how she dresses! She found a church to attend and actually got up on her first Sunday there and went! She says she might be going to South Africa this coming summer!

Emily, like dad always asks, "Where's little Emily?" I love you, and I couldn't be more proud of you for allowing our Saviour to come into your life and wreak havoc on it ;) I know I'm not the boss of your life, and I'm thankful that you know Who truly is :)

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! " --- 2 Corinthians 5:17

Dear Lord, thank you for my new sister. I kind of get along better with her than the old one ;)

P.S. You should check out Emily's blog. The link to it is to the right on this page. It would be saweet, if you would leave her a comment too :) Ya heard?
